The Basenji has a short coat that may vary in colors including brindle (black stripes on a chestnut background), black, chestnut red, or tricolor (black and chestnut). They also make excellent watchdogs, can defend people and property well. They are also wonderful show dogs due to their attractive copper coat and proud manner.
